Huizhou has a subtropical monsoon climate with abundant rainfalls and sunshine. The annual average precipitation is 2,200 mm, and the annual average temperature is 22 degrees Celsius.

Huizhou is a historical and cultural city in China. It has been an important town in eastern Guangdong since Sui and Tang dynasties (581-907). From the Tang Dynasty (618-907) to the late Qing Dynasty (1644-1911), more than 430 Chinese celebrities lived in or visited Huizhou, leaving behind a long list of historical and cultural heritage that the Huizhou people are proud of.

Overseas Chinese with Huizhou as their ancestral home are spread all over the world. There are many overseas Huizhou people groups, which can be divided into four types: peer groups with the same hometown, the same profession, the same dialect, and the same family name. Huizhou Overseas Chinese Association was founded on December 8, 1982, an independent association with 9 members. A unit of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), it serves as a bridge between the Party, the returned overseas Chinese and overseas Chinese.

Huizhou is situated at the junction of the three major dialect areas of Hakka, Cantonese and Hokkien. Hence, the spoken language in Huizhou is diversified. Hakka is the major dialect in Huizhou, prevalent in most counties and districts.

Huizhou is also an important center for Hakka people. Its Hakka culture inherits the traditions from its origin places — Guangdong's Meizhou city, southern Jiangxi province and western Fujian province — while also being influenced by Lingnan culture, thus forming a unique style.

In addition, Huizhou has abundant tourism resources, including high-quality natural landscapes, cultural relics and historical sites, and modern tourism attractions. Among them, the Huizhou West Lake Scenic Area is a national 5A scenic spot.

As a key development area of Guangdong province, Huizhou has experienced rapid economic growth, evolving into a newly industrialized city in the eastern part of the Pearl River Delta.

Huizhou has always been the political, economic, military and cultural center, as well as the commodity distribution center, of the Dongjiang River Region. It enjoys being a "Lingnan Excellent County", the "Gateway of East Guangdong", and "A City with Beautiful Mountain and Lake Landscape".
