Jiangmen, situated in south central Guangdong province, is geographically bordered by Foshan to the east, Yangjiang to the west, Yunfu to the north, and relatively close to Hong Kong and Macao. It covers a land area of 9,535 square kilometers and a sea area of 4,880.47 square kilometers.

Lying on the west bank of the estuary of the Pearl River, Jiangmen has a coastline of 409 kilometers and 352 islands, making it the second-largest in terms of island quantity in Guangdong province. The city falls into tropical marine climatic zone, with an annual average temperature of around 22 degrees Celsius. The total forest stock in the city is 25.2652 million cubic meters, with a forest coverage rate of 45.12 percent.

With over 5.3 million overseas Chinese and compatriots from Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan dispersed across 145 countries and regions, Jiangmen serves as a significant window for observing Guangdong and even China from an international perspective. It is "the Capital of Overseas Chinese" in China.

The city is home to the World Cultural Heritage "Kaiping Diaolou and Villages" and UNESCO's Memory of the World "Qiaopi and Yinxin Correspondence and Remittance Documents from Overseas Chinese." It also boasts with several cultural heritage items, such as the Baisha Maolong Brush and Cai Li Fo Boxing or Choy Lee Fut kung fu.

Given the area's wealth of unique natural resources, Jiangmen also has a good foundation for tourism, winning numerous national honors including the top tourist city, the National Garden City and a model city for environmental protection.

The city has always been among the top in economic development. It has been selected as a pilot city for a national information programme by the State Council, as well as a trial city for the Regional Integration for Sustainable Economics Project by the Pacific Economic Cooperation Council. In 2023, Jiangmen's GDP reached 402.23 billion yuan ($56.22 billion), a year-on-year increase of 5.5 percent, ranking 7th in the province in terms of total GDP. The added value of industries above a designated size was 145.52 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 6.8 percent.
