On January 30, Governor Ma Xingrui met with Governor of Canada Nova Scotia, Stephen McNeil, in Guangzhou.

On behalf of the Provincial Party Committee and the Provincial People's Government, Ma Xingrui welcomed Premier Stephen McNeil. He pointed out that in recent years, China-Canada relations have been deepening, and high-level exchanges of visits between Guangdong and Canada have been growing, and cooperation between the two provinces has ushered in new opportunities. After 40 years of reform and opening up, Guangdong's comprehensive strength has reached a new level. GDP has ranked first in the country for 29 consecutive years, with exports accounting for 27.5% of the national total and 11 companies entering the world's top 500. With the longest coastline in the country, Guangdong is vigorously developing the marine industry, accelerating the layout of offshore wind power, building an economic belt along the coastal cities, and vigorously promoting the expansion and reconstruction of the Pearl River Delta and East and West Wing airports, and accelerating the construction of a world-class airport group. Nova Scotia, rich in marine resources, has strong complementarity with Guangdong. It is hoped that the two sides will further strengthen interconnection and exchanges and deepen cooperation in tourism, international student education, economic and trade investment, etc., and promote exchanges and mutual understanding.

Stephen McNeil said that Nova Scotia attaches great importance to cooperation with China and Guangdong. The two provinces have established strong cooperative relations in import and export trade, science and technology, finance, tourism, education, and marine industries. They hope to speed up the establishment of direct flights and attract more Chinese tourists and students to Nova Scotia. It is anticipated that Guangdong's high-quality leading enterprises will invest and develop there and upgrade the cooperation between the two provinces to a new level.
