Guangzhou Unicorn Innovative Company List released

The 2021 Guangzhou Unicorn Innovative Company List was released on February 28, 2022. Sixteen Guangzhou-based companies are included in the list.

The 16 are mainly from six industrial sectors, including artificial intelligence (AI), information technology (IT), e-commerce, Internet of Things, new material and new energy, and enterprise service. They are closely related to the development of strategic emerging industries and the traditional trade industry in Guangzhou. The operating incomes of Guangzhou's unicorn firms have grown 66.66% annually on average in the past three years.  

Facial recognition payment service provided by Cloudwalk Technology, one of the 16 unicorn firms. The city also released three other lists, 63 "future unicorn firms", 25 "seeded unicorn firms", and a further 35 "high-end, precision and sophisticated firms".

Among the 16 unicorn firms, 12 are high-tech enterprises, with an average of 271 intellectual property rights (IPRs). Forty-eight out of 63 future unicorn firms are high-tech enterprises, which have 91 IPRs on average. Twenty-two of the 25 seeded unicorn firms are high-tech companies, with an average of 75 IPRs. Meanwhile, with 23 newcomers, a total of 28 biomedical companies are included on the lists, second only to IT enterprises.
