Xu Ruisheng Attends Uruguayan National Day Reception of and the Opening Ceremony of the Consulate General of Uruguay in Guangzhou

On Aug.27, Vice Governor Xu Ruisheng attended upon invitation Uruguayan National Day reception  and the opening ceremony of the Consulate General of Uruguay in Guangzhou.

Xu said that this year marks the celebration of 30th anniversary of the establishment of China-Uruguay diplomatic relations. With the influence and promotion of the good relations between the two countries, local exchanges and cooperation between Guangdong and Uruguay have become increasingly close, and local economic and trade groups have more frequent visits, and continuous cooperation has been developed between the two sides’ entrepreneurs. In 2017, the total import and export volume was US$680 million, accounting for about one seventh of the bilateral trade volume between China and Uruguay.

On this basis, the establishment of Uruguay Consulate General in Guangzhou has opened a new chapter for the exchanges and cooperation between the two sides. At present, there are 62 Consulates General in Guangdong Province, and Uruguay Consulate General is warmly welcomed to be a new member of this large family. He hoped that Uruguay Consulate General in Guangzhou can be a bond of exchanges and cooperation in the fields of trade, agriculture, culture and tourism.

Uruguay's Minister of Foreign Affairs Rodolfo Nin Novoa presided over the opening ceremony of the Uruguay Consulate General. At the ceremony, he hoped that with the important role played by Guangdong in the economic and trade cooperation between Uruguay and China, the cooperation between the two sides in the fields of economy, trade, investment, culture and sports could be further promoted through the setting of the Consulate General in Guangzhou.

Xu met with the delegation led by Rodolfo Nin Novoa before the ceremony. Ambassador Qiu Xuejun, Consul of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Lanhu, Deputy Director General of the Department of Latin American and Caribbean Affairs of China also attended the meeting and related activities.
