On October 25, 2019, President Xi Jinping held talks with President Jair Bolsonaro of Brazil at the Great Hall of the People.

Xi Jinping welcomed Jair Bolsonaro's first visit to China, and thanked him for his warm congratulatory message on the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China. Xi Jinping pointed out, China and Brazil are the most representative emerging market countries and largest developing countries of the east and west hemispheres. Since the establishment of diplomatic relations 45 years ago, our two countries have always respected and treated each other as equals and pursued mutual benefit and win-win results, becoming the role models of solidarity and cooperation for common development. The world today is undergoing profound changes unseen in a century, but the trend of the times featuring peace, development and win-win results remains unchanged, and the momentum of collective rise of emerging markets like China and Brazil remains unchanged. The Chinese side's policy on developing China-Brazil relations from a strategic height and long-term perspective remains unchanged. At present, as both China and Brazil are at the critical period in national development, we should learn from the past, look into the future, open up new prospects for China-Brazil comprehensive strategic partnership, and add more positive energy to safeguarding world and regional peace, stability and prosperity.

Xi Jinping stressed, both sides should keep to the right direction. Both countries should adhere to viewing each other as development opportunities, prioritizing the relations with each other in foreign policies, and pushing forward China-Brazil comprehensive strategic partnership. The two countries need to give full play to the strategic guiding role of the high-level exchanges, understand and support each other's core interests, continuously increase political mutual trust, and be good friends of sincerity and good partners of mutual support.

We need to stay committed to practical cooperation and deliver benefits to our peoples. The Chinese side stands ready to import more quality and high value-added products from Brazil, and expand cooperation in such areas as agriculture, energy, mining, aerospace and infrastructure construction.

We need to cultivate new areas of cooperation and make scientific and technological innovation and digital economy as new growth drivers in bilateral cooperation.

We need to work for closer people-to-people bonds and comprehensively enhance cooperation in people-to-people and cultural engagement. We should promote exchanges in such areas with respective features as football and traditional Chinese medicine, and support cooperation at local areas between both countries.

We need to reinforce strategic coordination. Our two countries should make joint efforts to safeguard multilateralism and oppose protectionism and unilateralism, push forward the world economy to develop in a balanced, inclusive and sustainable way and promote the development of international order in a more just and equitable direction. The Chinese side supports the Brazilian side in ensuring this year's BRICS Summit a success.

Jair Bolsonaro congratulated the People's Republic of China again on the 70th anniversary of its founding. He expressed, the huge development achievements China has scored are admirable. China is Brazil's great cooperation partner. Though Brazil and China are far away from each other, we share similar views. Brazil highly values China's position as a major country, and will prioritize its relations with China in its foreign policy. China has become Brazil's biggest trade partner. My visit is a strong proof of the closeness of Brazil-China friendship and witnesses the highlights of bilateral relations. I am willing to work with you to intensify and deepen Brazil-China comprehensive strategic partnership, lift bilateral relations in terms of both quality and quantity, join hands for common development and better benefit both peoples. It is hoped that the two sides will expand bilateral trade and investment, deepen cooperation in such important areas as science and technology, aerospace and sports. Brazil will open its market, and Chinese enterprises are welcome to actively participate in investment and cooperation in Brazil's infrastructure construction and oil and gas development. Brazil welcomes more Chinese tourists for visa-free travel. Jair Bolsonaro thanked the Chinese side for unequivocally speaking for developing countries including Brazil in international settings. The Brazilian side will resolutely follow the One China policy, and is willing to work with the Chinese side to safeguard multilateralism and free trade, as well as strengthen communication and coordination in major international and regional issues.

Xi Jinping stressed, the Chinese side has always respected Latin American people in choosing their own development paths and supported Latin America in speeding up integration. The Chinese side is willing to, together with the Brazilian side, build the China-Latin America relations for the new era featuring equality, mutual benefit, innovation, openness and benefits for the people as well as build a China-Latin America community with a shared future. Jair Bolsonaro said, Brazil currently holds the rotating presidency of the Southern Common Market (Mercosur), and stands ready to push for the negotiations between Mercosur countries and the Chinese side on trade liberalization and facilitation, so as to play an active role in promoting the development of Latin America-China relations.
