Freed from boundary-crossing: Registration of Zhuhai real estate transfer available in Macao

Macao and Zhuhai have launched a pilot program that enables citizens to manage real estate transfer registration without crossing the boundary, starting from July 28.

Signed by Zhuhai Real Estate Registration Center and Industrial and Commercial Bank of China (ICBC) Macao Branch, the cooperation agreement aims to streamline the process of real estate registration through the application of information technology.

Built on previous efforts - Zhuhai real estate service outlet in Macao, the new program adopts a mode combining "pre-owned house registration" and "financial services". Technologies like information sharing, face recognition, electronic signature and big data verification are employed to ensure well-functioning online procedures of application, approval, payment and certificate delivery.

Macao's first Zhuhai real estate outlet for real estate cross-border mortgage was set in January 2020, and has till today served over 2000 citizens with payments amounting to RMB 10 billion. Now the new pilot program marks a step further.

"The program provides a one-stop service of pre-owned house ownership transfer and mortgages for enterprises and residents in Macao," said Liu Chenguang, director of Zhuhai Real Estate Registration Center, "this new mode is being first tested in ICBC Macao, and once ready, will be promoted to other banks."
