Guangdong is launching a fourth round of price adjustments and reduces price of conducting COVID-19 nucleic acid tests in public hospitals from December 15, according to the Healthcare Security Administration of Guangdong Province.

The cost of a single sample of the COVID nucleic acid test is composed of "test service fee 25 yuan + test reagent price". Starting from today, Guangdong slashes the total price of COVID-19 tests from 58 yuan to  an average of 33.2 yuan, with the maximum of 40 yuan per person for a single test.

The price for a 5-in-1 and 10-in-1 mixed testing approach is lowered to 8 yuan per person from 12 yuan previously. Under this method, five or ten throat swabs are collected in one tube for testing, and once a positive result is found in the tube, those five or ten people are instructed to undergo isolation and testing again one by one to further identify the carrier of the positive sample.

And the price of antibody tests in this province drops to 23.5 yuan, with IgG and IgM testing at the same time dropping to 33.5 yuan on average. No registration or outpatient expense is required for nucleic acid testing alone.

The cost of a single test in Guangdong drops from 143 yuan per person at the beginning of the COVID-19 outbreak to 33.2 yuan, down by 76.7%, and the cost of mixed testing approach drops from 20 yuan per person to 8 yuan, down by 60%. The total cost of testing in Guangdong repeatedly reaches the lowest or lower level in China. As of November 15, Guangdong has saved 15.86 billion yuan of procurement costs for nucleic acid tests since the outbreak.
