The second team of mainland health experts and workers arrived in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) via the Shenzhen Bay Port on Saturday to work with the HKSAR government in fighting the latest COVID-19 outbreak.

The team is comprised of 114 members, including four critical care medical specialists, four administrative staff members, and 106 sampling workers.

The four critical care specialists will discuss with clinical medical experts in Hong Kong on the treatment of severe and critical COVID-19 cases, and share the treatment experience of COVID-19 patients in the mainland.

Zhang Yurun, Deputy Director-General of Health Commission of Guangdong Province, serves as the head of this team. He introduced that, at present, the mainland and Hong Kong have jointly established a special anti-epidemic team and formulated work plans. Upon arrival in Hong Kong, they will assist the city in carrying out research on serious illness and treatment, as well as virus testing.

Members of this team are the elite in Guangdong’s fight against the COVID-19. They are not only experienced in providing medical care, but also speak Cantonese and English.

The four critical care specialists come from Guangdong Provincial People’s Hospital and the First Affiliated Hospital of Guangzhou Medical University.

The sampling team consists of four administrative staff members and 106 members from 5 Guangdong hospitals, including Guangdong Provincial People’s Hospital, the First Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University, the First Affiliated Hospital of Jinan University (also known as Guangzhou Overseas Chinese Hospital), Guangdong Province Traditional Chinese Medical Hospital and the Third Affiliated Hospital of Southern Medical University.

Hong Kong’s community also expressed their thanks for the support of the central government. “Under the increasingly severe COVID-19 situation, the central government organized all these medical personnel and materials, which has alleviated our tremendous medical pressure,” said Liu Shenghao, a registered Chinese medicine practitioner in Hong Kong.

Huang Chufeng, Member of the All-China Youth Federation, and also a registered Chinese medicine practitioner in Hong Kong, believes that Hong Kong will be able to curb the COVID-19 outbreak with the efforts of medical staff of mainland and Hong Kong, as well as the entire society.
