Zhuhai, Macao to further weather services cooperation in the Hengqin Cooperation Zone

Zhuhai and Macao are to add further cooperation in weather forecasting and early warning for the Guangdong-Macao In-Depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin, according to a meeting held by the meteorological bureaus from Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao on April 8.

It was agreed in the meeting that the Meteorological Bureau of Zhuhai shall carry out deeper collaboration with Macao Meteorological and Geophysical Bureau in the fields of disaster prevention and mitigation, ecological civilization, cultural tourism and safety production within the Cooperation Zone, safeguarding the Zone with better prediction and weather services.

Since the establishment of the Zone, a regular cooperation and exchange mechanism has been set up between meteorological departments from Zhuhai and Macao. Under the mechanism, the two sides have built a platform for detection equipment and data sharing, conducting weather consultation, personnel exchanges and joint weather warnings.

Weather services for the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge were also discussed in the meeting, saying that Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao shall build an instant communication platform, optimize and improve the current weather data sharing webpage, thus helping keep bridge transportation safe.

The meeting was held in a hybrid format including representatives from Guangdong Meteorological Observatory, Hong Kong Observatory, Macao Meteorological and Geophysical Bureau and Meteorological Bureau of Zhuhai.
