Yunfu city is located in the mid-west of Guangdong province. It neighbors the cities of Zhaoqing, Foshan, Jiangmen, Yangjiang and Maoming in Guangdong, along with Wuzhou of Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region.
Yunfu is a typical mountain city with a total area of 7,785 square kilometers, 60.5 percent of which is made up of mountainous terrain.
Statistics from 2018 show that the city has 3 million permanent residents, with a natural reduction rate of 4.81 per thousand. Besides Han Chinese, there are people from another 37 ethnic groups living scattered around the rural areas of the city. Most of them are from the Zhuang, Yao, Dong, Miao and Tujia ethnic groups, with the total number exceeding 11,500.
Yunfu is one of the major stone materials manufacturing bases in China, with an industrial output of more than 31 billion yuan ($4.5 billion) in 2017, according to official statistics.
