Ouyang Weimin Meets with Ambassador of the Republic of Portugal to China

Guangzhou,May 2, 2018, Vice Governor Ouyang Weimin met with José Augusto Duarte, Ambassador of the Republic of Portugal to China.

Ouyang Weimin first extended welcome to José Augusto Duarte, and then briefly introduced the economic and social development of Guangdong Province.

He noted that in recent years Sino-Portuguese friendly ties have developed well, as a result, the cooperation between Guangdong and Portugal went well. What's more, Zhuhai and Shenzhen have established sister-city relations with Kastelo Blanko and Porto respectively.

There is broad space for cooperation between Guangdong and Portugal. It is hoped that Portugal will actively participate in the Belt and Road Initiative, seize the opportunity brought by the building of Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, and make good use of platforms such as Canton Fair, to promote the cooperation in economy and trade, investment, oceanic economy, education, tourism and people-to-people exchanges.

On the other hand, Guangdong will strengthen communication with Portuguese-speaking countries through close cooperation with Macao.

José Augusto Duarte replied that Portugal values the friendship and cooperation with Guangdong very much. They hope to deepen the cooperation with Guangdong in economy and trade ,investment, port, education, culture and technology with Consulate General of the Republic of Portugal in Guangzhou as a bridge.
