Li Yumei Meets with Irish Guests

GUANGZHOU, April 24, 2018-- Li Yumei, Chairperson of the Standing Committee of the Provincial People's Congress of Guangdong, met with the Irish delegation led by Seán Ó Fearghaíl, Speaker of the House of Commons of Irish Parliament. 

Li extended welcome to Seán Ó Fearghaíl and his delegation, and then briefly introduced the economic and social development of Guangdong and the work of the Provincial People's Congress. 

Li pointed out that Guangdong has been actively participating in Sino-Irish exchanges and cooperation within the framework of strategic partnership for mutually beneficial cooperation. As a leading country in innovation, Ireland is highly complementary to Guangdong that is pressing ahead with industrial transformation and upgrading. This brings great potential and broad space for cooperation. 

Li noted that Guangdong Provincial People's Congress has attached great importance to exchanges and cooperation with local councils in foreign countries so as to make new grounds in  pursuing opening up.  The Provincial People's Congress hopes to establish friendly ties with more local councils of Ireland for better mutual understanding, more experience sharing and seeking opportunities for cooperation, so as to promote prosperity and better development of the two sides.

Seán Ó Fearghaíl said that the friendly relations between Ireland and China becomes ever closer, and it is hoped that the cooperation with Guangdong in economy, trade, tourism, research and culture will be strengthened .
