GUANGZHOU Oct. 19, 2018--Governor Ma Xingrui met with a delegation led by Portuguese Foreign Minister Augusto Silva.
Ma extended welcome to the delegation and briefed them on Guangdong's economic and social development and Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
Ma said that since the establishment of diplomatic relations, China and Portugal have cooperated productively in various fields, enjoyed frequent high-level exchanges and continuously strengthened political mutual trust. Within the framework of sound bilateral ties, Guangdong and Portugal have further consolidated cooperation in the fields of economy, trade and investment. With the development of the Belt and Road Initiative and the Greater Bay Area, there is large potential for growth in trade. Guangdong will further enhance its exchanges and cooperation with Portugal and Portuguese-speaking countries through its close ties with Macao.
Ma noted that Guangdong is ready to seize the opportunity brought by the BRI and the development of the Greater Bay Area, strengthen collaboration with Portugal in areas of economy, trade, investment, energy, tourism and culture, etc.
Silva said that Portugal attaches great importance to developing friendly relations with China and hopes to further engage with Guangdong in various fields.With the establishment of the Portuguese Consulate General in Guangzhou, there will be more frequent exchanges and cooperation.
