GD sets plans for GBA development in 2022: focusing on Hengqin and Qianhai

In 2022, Guangdong will make all-out efforts to advance the development of Hengqin and Qianhai cooperation zones, improve working mechanisms and policy systems, and give new reform and opening-up edges to the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA).

It was announced by Li Xi, Secretary of the CPC Guangdong Provincial Committee, when indicating the province’s plan for GBA development at a recent meeting held by the Office of the Leading Group for Developing the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area in Guangdong on Feburary 10.

Li indicated that over the past year, Guangdong, together with Hong Kong and Macao, has scored new achievements in promoting the development of the Greater Bay Area while seizing great opportunities offered by the Hengqin and Qianhai cooperation zones and the building of a high-level talent highland in the GBA.

Last September,China issued plans for Building the Guangdong-Macao In-depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin and Deepening of the Reform and Opening Up of the Qianhai Shenzhen-Hong Kong Modern Service Industry Co-operation Zone.

Since then, Guangdong has made untiring efforts to advance the construction of the two cooperation zones.

Besides the plans on the Hengqin and Qianhai, Guangdong will also strengthen the collaborative innovation and industrial cooperation in the GBA, accelerate the building of a high-level talent highland, make GBA a global highland for scientific and technological innovation, and foster the development of emerging industries.

Li also states that Guangdong will promote infrastructure connectivity and coordinate the rules of Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao, push ahead with GBA Connectivity Initiative and enhance market integration in the GBA.

Guangdong plans to deepen the cooperation to improve people's livelihood and cultural exchanges in the GBA, work on regulatory convergence in the areas of employment, education, medical care, and social security, and build a beautiful bay area that is ecologically safe, environmentally attractive, socially stable and culturally vibrant.

Furthermore, Guangdong will coordinate pandemic prevention and control and exchange and cooperation in the GBA.
