15 minutes from Gongbei to Zhuhai Airport! This bridge to open in 2023

On September 5, the last main-span steel girder of Jinhai Avenue Bridge of Zhuhai-Zhuhai Airport Intercity Railway was successfully put in place, marking an important milestone in the Phase II building of Zhuhai Airport Urban Rail Transit.  

As a vital part of the Zhuhai Airport Urban Rail Transit Phase II, the bridge starts from the Hengqin New Area of Zhuhai, crosses the Modaomen Waterway of the Xijiang River, and ends at Zhuhai Airport East Road.

Running 23 km from Hengqin Chimelong Station to Zhuhai (Jinwan) Airport, the Phase II project of Zhuhai Airport Urban Rail Transit is expected to be completed by 2023. By then, it will take just 15-30 minutes from Zhuhai Railway Station in Gongbei to Zhuhai Airport.

The bridge is 1,369 meters long and 49.6 meters wide, with a double-lane 160 km/h intercity railway in the middle, and a two-way six-lane 100 km/h expressway on both sides. It is known as the world's widest road-rail dual-use cable-stayed bridge as well as the world's first cable-stayed bridge with multiple towers on the same floor.

According to the authority of China Railway Engineering, the bridge project adopted a set of AI detecting systems to ensure simultaneous supervision during construction. Meanwhile, innovative design and new-type materials have been employed to shorten workload and schedule.

Designed with a speed of 160 km/h, the Zhuhai-Zhuhai Airport Intercity Railway will greatly reduce the traveling time from Jinwan district to Hengqin. Upon completion, it will take only 10-15 minutes from Jinwan to Hengqin.
