A reception celebrating the 77th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China was held in Guangzhou, Guangdong province, on Sept 29.

Wang Xi, a member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Guangdong Provincial Committee and director of the United Front Work Department; Zhang Guozhi, a member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Guangdong Provincial Committee and vice‑governor of Guangdong province; Ye Zhenqin, deputy director of the Standing Committee of the Guangdong Provincial People's Congress; and Huang Wu, vice‑chairman of the Guangdong Provincial Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, attended the event, together with the heads of provincial democratic parties and municipal officials.

Guests included foreign consular officials in Guangzhou, recipients of the 2nd Guangdong Friendship Award, representatives from international sister cities, foreign experts, overseas‑funded enterprises, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan compatriots, overseas Chinese, as well as model individuals and award‑winning scientists across the province.

Addressing the gathering, Wang said the year 2026 marks the start of the 15th Five-Year Plan (2026-30) and APEC China Year. He said Guangdong will advance high‑quality development, deepen reform and opening‑up, boost coordinated regional development and improve people's livelihoods to write new chapters of local modernization progress.
