Council for the Promotion of Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Cooperation elects new leadership

The fifth member representative conference of the Council for the Promotion of Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Cooperation was held in Guangzhou on Jan 6.

The event marked the election of a new leadership body, further strengthening the collaborative efforts among the three regions.

Following the meeting, Huang Kunming, Party secretary of Guangdong province, and Wang Weizhong, deputy Party secretary and governor of Guangdong province, met with representatives from various sectors in Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao.

Huang hailed the convening of the conference, affirming the council's significant contributions to the development of the "one country, two systems" cause and the high-quality development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA).

He expressed gratitude to all those who have supported Guangdong's development and the cooperation among the three regions.

He also highlighted the historical and geographical ties that bind Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao.

In a video speech, John Lee Ka-chiu, chief executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR), emphasized the HKSAR government's commitment to leveraging Hong Kong's unique advantages under the "one country, two systems" principle.

He highlighted the importance of aligning with national strategies, integrating into overall national development, and enhancing external exchanges and cooperation.

Lee acknowledged the geographical and cultural connections between Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao, and praised the Council for the Promotion of Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Cooperation for building a high-quality platform that fosters integrated development in the GBA.

Sam Hou-fai, chief executive of the Macao Special Administrative Region (MSAR), conveyed his congratulations via a message.

He noted Macao's ongoing efforts to strengthen and improve the practice of "one country, two systems" principle by taking advantage of Macao's special characteristics.

Sam emphasized that cooperation among Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao is crucial for Macao's development and expressed optimism that the Council for the Promotion of Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Cooperation will continue to innovate and expand cooperation, contributing significantly to the development of the GBA.

The conference was attended by over 370 representatives from various sectors in Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao, and Huang Ningsheng was elected as the chairman of the fifth board of directors.

Other provincial leaders, including Wang Xi, Feng Zhonghua, and Zhang Guozhi, as well as Eric Chan Kwok-ki, chief secretary for administration of the HKSAR government, and Cheong Weng Chon, secretary for administration and justice of the MSAR government, also participated.
