Time of establishment of friendly relations: June 2016
Overview:
Chungcheongnam-do is located in the midwestern region of the Republic of Korea (ROK), covering an area of 8,245 square kilometers with a population of 2.12 million. Its economy is primarily based on agriculture, with a strong focus on sericulture (silk farming). Key industries include food processing, textiles, leather and paper manufacturing. Chungcheongnam-do is also home to leading companies in the semiconductor, display, automotive and petrochemical sectors, making it one of the ROK's most prominent industrial hubs.
Relations with Guangdong:
Since establishing friendly relations, Guangdong province and Chungcheongnam-do have engaged in fruitful exchanges and cooperation in areas such as trade, culture, agriculture, sports and youth programs.
In November 2019, Ye Zhenqin, member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Guangdong Provincial Committee, led an agricultural delegation to Chungcheongnam-do to explore areas such as beekeeping, rural development and agricultural machinery, fostering collaboration.
Since 2019, Chungcheongnam-do has participated in Guangdong's International Youth Exchange Week, strengthening ties and friendship among young people from the two regions. In November 2021, the two regions co-hosted an online Go match to celebrate the fifth anniversary of their partnership.
In July 2022, Governor Wang Weizhong of Guangdong province sent a congratulatory letter to Kim Tae-heum on his appointment as governor of Chungcheongnam-do.
