Recently, 48 professors from Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (Guangzhou) (HKUST(GZ)) have been recognized as the World's Top 2% of the Most-Cited Scientists 2024 by Stanford University, marking a significant increase from 34 professors last year.

This year's achievement is particularly noteworthy as HKUST(GZ) has seen a surge in the number of professors recognized for both their lifetime and annual scientific impact. The university now boasts 32 professors on the "Lifetime Scientific Impact Ranking," an increase from 24 last year, while the "Annual Scientific Impact Ranking" has expanded to 41 professors from 29 in 2023. Notably, 25 professors have been featured on both lists, accounting for approximately 19.3% of the university's total academic staff.

The broad representation of these esteemed professors across all four hubs and 16 academic domains underscores HKUST(GZ)'s strength in interdisciplinary research and the diverse expertise of its faculty. Their research spans diverse fields, further highlighting the university's commitment to fostering cutting-edge interdisciplinary education and research.

The World's Top 2% of the Most-Cited Scientists 2024 by Stanford University, compiled by Professor John P.A. Ioannidis's team at Stanford University in collaboration with Elsevier, a leading academic publisher, is based on rigorous analysis of citation data from the Scopus database. The ranking adopts six key metrics, including total citations, Hirsch H-index, co-authorship-corrected Schreiber Hm-index, sole authorship, sole or first authorship, and citations to articles with sole, first, or last authorship. These indicators applied to nearly seven million scientists worldwide, identify the top 2% in 22 broad fields and 176 subfields, providing an objective and reliable measure of scientists' long-term research performance and global influence.
