China's Diplomacy in the New Era
Guangdong official engages Spanish scientist on research collaboration

Wang Xi, a member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Guangdong Provincial Committee, recently met with Javier LLorca, scientific director of the Spanish Madrid Institutes for Advanced Studies (IMDEA) Materials Institute, in Guangzhou.

The two had an in-depth discussion on promoting scientific research cooperation in the field of new materials.

Wang said that Guangdong is deeply involved in the development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, of which scientific and technological innovation is an integral part.

The Greater Bay Area excels in research and technology transfer, with numerous influential universities, research institutes, high-tech enterprises, and major national scientific projects. The area is committed to becoming an international center for scientific and technological innovation.

This year marks the 20th anniversary of the comprehensive strategic partnership between China and Spain. Wang expressed hope that LLorca's visit would deepen his understanding of universities, institutions, and enterprises in Guangdong. By using the strengths of both sides in new materials, they can strengthen technological cooperation and contribute to bilateral relations and global scientific progress.

LLorca was also invited to attend the Greater Bay Area Science Forum at the end of this year.

LLorca said that the IMDEA Materials Institute has the highest concentration of Chinese scholars and doctoral students in Spain. The institute hopes to serve as a bridge for international cooperation between Spain and China in advanced materials.

Guangdong, being at the forefront of China's opening-up, offers broad prospects for cooperation. Both sides hope to promote exchanges and mutual visits of scientific researchers, explore project cooperation, and carry out joint research to facilitate the transformation and utilization of scientific research results.
