A shipment of fresh mandarin fish weighing 500 kilograms from Qingxin district of Qingyuan, Guangdong province, was sent to Hong Kong on Friday after passing inspection and quarantine by local customs authorities.
It was Qingyuan's first shipment of mandarin fish to pass through customs.
Qingxin, located by the Beijiang River, has clean water and a mild climate, which provide ideal natural conditions for the growth of mandarin fish. The local farming area stretches across 740 hectares.

According to Chen He, general manager of Qingyuan Yutong Aquaculture Technology, the shipment went through registration processes, entry standards, and customs clearance procedures. After this successful initial shipment to Hong Kong, the company plans to maintain a stable supply to the special administrative region's market.
To streamline the chain from aquaculture to sales for local companies, authorities have accelerated the development of supporting facilities, such as cold chain storage and seafood processing.
Production of mandarin fish in Qingxin reached nearly 20,000 tons in 2025, with the total industrial chain output value reaching 2.376 billion yuan ($340 million), according to data from local authorities.
