The vehicle flow at the Zhuhai port of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge reached a historical high on Monday, indicating a continued rise in the popularity of cross-border travel in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
The port inspected 29,800 inbound and outbound vehicles on Monday, among which 22,800 were Hong Kong and Macao single-plate vehicles, both setting new records since the bridge opened in 2018, according to statistics from border inspection authorities.
During the three-day Qingming Festival holiday, which ended on Monday, the total number of vehicles entering and exiting through the Zhuhai port exceeded 77,400, ranking first among all ports nationwide.
Hong Kong and Macao residents driving north into the Chinese mainland have become the primary force of vehicle flow at the border crossing, as vehicles registered only in the two special administrative regions made up 80.3 percent of small passenger vehicles.
