Guangzhou Baiyunshan Pharmaceutical Holdings, a subsidiary of Guangzhou Pharmaceutical Group, has prioritized technological innovation as a key development strategy, reporting a year-on-year increase of more than 20 percent in research and development expenditures in the first half of the year, according to its 2026 half-year report.

Baiyunshan generated 42.09 billion yuan ($5.96 billion) in operating revenue during the six-month period, marking a 0.61 percent year-on-year increase, according to the report. The company is listed in both Shanghai and Hong Kong.

The increased research and development budget reflects the company's push to establish a second growth curve through technological innovation, accepting short-term reform challenges to secure long-term core competitiveness.

Focusing on five key areas including malignant tumors, chronic disease management, respiratory health, the immune system, and men's health medications, the company, based in Guangzhou, the capital of Guangdong province, is currently working on over 160 research and development projects.

In response to challenges of high investment and long cycles, the company is accelerating its digital and intelligent transformation. It has established a joint venture to integrate cutting-edge technologies such as artificial intelligence and big data into its core pharmaceutical and healthcare operations.
