China’s Guangdong province posted 62.55 billion yuan（$9.24 billion) in actually utilized foreign direct investment (FDI) in the first half of 2026, up 6.8 percent year-on-year. Some 16,000 new foreign-funded enterprises were established, an increase of 8.4 percent.

Large projects serve as a core growth driver. Seventeen projects each with over $100 million in paid-in capital contributed a total of $5.27 billion in FDI, a 48.2 percent year-on-year rise. In June, actually utilized FDI hit 15.78 billion yuan, surging 142.8 percent.

The industrial structure keeps being optimized. FDI in high-tech industries hit 34.86 billion yuan, soaring 208.7 percent, with both high-tech services and manufacturing logging growth of over 200 percent. Hong Kong capital accounts for 76.6 percent of the total, while investment from Japan and the United States jumped 151.4 percent and 164.1 percent, respectively.

Key regional hubs and major investment projects are advancing at a faster pace. South Korea’s Subaru Tecnica International broke ground on its multi-billion-yuan semiconductor base in the city. The BASF Verbund Site in Zhanjiang, China’s first wholly foreign-owned heavy chemical project, is now fully operational.

Strategic platforms including the Qianhai Shenzhen-Hong Kong Modern Service Industry Zone and Guangzhou’s Nansha district saw strong momentum, with FDI surging 102.9 percent and 370 percent, respectively., from a year earlier.

Coordinated investment promotion has also yielded fruitful results. Shaoguan has built South China’s largest intelligent computing cluster, and Yangjiang has approved an 11.09-billion-yuan green hydrogen industrial base.

Guangdong is home to over 400,000 foreign-funded enterprises, with their cumulative actually utilized FDI exceeding $610 billion. The province’s complete industrial system and improving business environment continue to attract global capital, injecting sustained impetus into its high-quality development.
