Guangdong Provincial People's Government and the BASF Group held the 13th High-Level Consultation Meeting in Guangzhou on November 7 to discuss the high-quality construction of the BASF (Guangdong) Verbund site in Zhanjiang, Guangdong province.
Wang Weizhong, governor of Guangdong province, and Martin Brudermüller, chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of BASF, addressed the meeting.
The BASF (Guangdong) Verbund site project is a major national foreign investment initiative and the largest single project by a German company in China, with a total investment of approximately €10 billion (76.68 billion yuan). The new plant will produce 60,000 metric tons of engineering plastic compounds per year for customers in China. Thanks to joint efforts, significant progress has been made, including the completion and operation of the first phase. The core facilities are expected to be completed and operational by the fourth quarter of 2025.
Wang recognized the strong collaboration between Guangdong and BASF, highlighting the project's milestones as a testament to Guangdong's speed and BASF's efficiency. He said that Guangdong is fully implementing the guiding principles of the third plenary session of the 20th CPC Central Committee and the provincial directives. The province remains committed to deepening reforms, expanding high-level opening-up and pushing forward high-quality development.
Wang expressed hopes that BASF would maintain its momentum, attract more high-end chemical enterprises to invest in Guangdong and Zhanjiang, and help establish a world-class green petrochemical industrial cluster. The province, he said, would provide robust support to ensure the project becomes a global benchmark in the green petrochemical sector.
Martin Brudermüller expressed gratitude for Guangdong's continued support, noting that the smooth progress and fruitful results since the project's inception have reinforced BASF's confidence in investing in the province. He called for ongoing collaboration to accelerate the project's development and deepen cooperation in areas like technological innovation and smart manufacturing, aiming for even greater achievements.
Liu Hongbing, vice-governor of Guangdong province, and Markus Kamieth, a member of BASF's Board of Executive Directors, also attended the event.
