Wang Weizhong, governor of Guangdong province, met with Kuok Khoon Hong, chairman of Singapore-based Wilmar International, in Guangzhou on November 8.

Wang welcomed Kuok and his delegation for their participation in the Global Investment Promotion Conference for the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. He noted that Wilmar International, as one of the first multinational agribusiness groups to invest in Guangdong during the early days of China's reform and opening-up, has been deeply involved in the province's agricultural and food processing sectors for decades.

He said that modern agriculture and the food industry are among Guangdong's ten strategic pillar industry clusters and one of the province's eight trillion-yuan industry clusters. Guangdong is currently deepening reforms, expanding high-level openness, and advancing high-quality development. Key initiatives including the "High-quality Development Project for Hundreds of Counties, Thousands of Towns, and Myriads of Villages" were implemented, aiming to boost agricultural processing, promote high-end food manufacturing, and extend the agricultural value chain.

Wang expressed hope that Wilmar International would leverage its strengths in capital, technology, and talent to actively participate in the high-quality development project, expand investments in agricultural and food processing, and contribute to coordinated urban and rural development in the province. He said that Guangdong would continue to provide a world-class business environment, offering high-quality services to support Wilmar International's growth.

Kuok shared insights on Wilmar International's development in Guangdong, emphasizing the company's strong focus on the Chinese and Greater Bay Area markets. He reaffirmed Wilmar International's confidence in Guangdong's prospects and pledged to increase investments in areas such as agricultural and food processing, as well as healthcare. Kuok expressed Wilmar International's commitment to contributing to Guangdong's high-quality development.

Zhang Xin, vice-governor of Guangdong province, and Sun Zhiyang, mayor of Guangzhou, also attended the meeting.
