From May 18-20 local time, Wang Weizhong, governor of Guangdong province, led a delegation to Egypt, seeking to strengthen cooperation between Guangdong and Egypt in various fields.
Wang, in his meetings with Mohamed Abou El-Enein, deputy speaker of the Egyptian House of Representatives, emphasized the fruitful cooperation between Guangdong and Egypt in recent years, particularly in areas such as personnel exchanges, economic and trade investment, science, education, and cultural tourism.
With the upcoming 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Egypt, Wang expressed Guangdong's commitment to working closely with Egypt to achieve mutual development.
During the meeting with Hossam Heiba, president of the Egyptian General Authority for Investment & Free Zones (GAFI), Wang highlighted the complementary nature of Egypt's "2030 Vision" economic transformation with the industrial structure and development needs of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
He expressed a desire to expand trade, promote bilateral investment, and deepen cooperation in infrastructure and other areas.
During the discussion with Waleid Gamal El-Dien, chairman of the General Authority of Egypt's Suez Canal Economic Zone, Wang expressed hopes of deepening collaboration in key areas such as smart manufacturing, biopharmaceuticals, automotive, new energy, digital economy, and home appliance manufacturing based upon the memorandum of understanding on cooperation signed last year.
The Egyptian side welcomed the visit of the Guangdong delegation, acknowledging the solid foundation and promising prospects of cooperation between Egypt and Guangdong. They extended a sincere invitation for Guangdong enterprises to invest in Egypt and contribute to the economic development of both countries.
Wang also attended the Greater Bay Area-Africa (Egypt) Economic and Trade Exchange Conference held in Cairo on May 19 and delivered a keynote address.
He emphasized the growing economic and trade collaboration between Guangdong and Egypt, noting that the export volume between the two sides makes up one-fifth of the total China-Egypt trade volume.
He also expressed the province's willingness to deepen practical cooperation in investment, trade, advanced manufacturing, commercial aerospace, green energy, digital economy, financial investment, cultural tourism, and other fields under the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative and the comprehensive strategic partnership between China and Egypt.
Additionally, the delegation engaged in friendly exchanges in Alexandria, marking the 15th anniversary of friendship between Guangdong and Alexandria.
Wang expressed a desire to deepen cooperation, enhance trade and economic exchange, jointly develop the maritime economy, promote continued cultural exchanges, and create a new chapter of friendship between the two regions.
The delegation also made on-site visits to the new administrative capital of Egypt and the Borg El Arab Industrial Zone for research and exploration.
