China's Diplomacy in the New Era
Guangdong governor holds key talks with HSBC CEO

Wang Weizhong, governor of Guangdong province, met with Georges Elhedery, CEO of HSBC, in Guangzhou on June 19.

Wang welcomed Elhedery and his delegation to Guangdong and congratulated HSBC on its 160th anniversary.

Wang said that Guangdong is a major province in China in terms of economy, population, and finance. It stands out as the leader in both domestic and foreign currency deposits, loans, securities trading volume, the number of listed companies, and insurance premium income. Boasting a resilient and dynamic economy, Guangdong offers vast markets and a wealth of business opportunities.

The province is currently deepening its reform and advancing high-level opening-up, creating a favorable environment for foreign-funded enterprises.

Wang expressed hope that HSBC would expand its investment and business in Guangdong, allocate more financial resources, and provide professional services.

He also encouraged HSBC to use its global network and cross-border advantages to bring more partners into Guangdong's high-quality development and contribute to the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

Elhedery thanked Guangdong for its long-term support and introduced HSBC's business development in the province. He said that HSBC remains optimistic about Guangdong and the Greater Bay Area and will strengthen its investment to achieve a win-win development.
