From Sept 8 to 12, the Foreign Affairs Office of Guangdong Province and the Guangdong People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries organized an exchange program for representatives from sister cities and friendly organizations in countries including Australia, Germany, Japan, Malaysia, Nepal, Spain, and the United Arab Emirates.
On Sept 9, the delegation visited Nansha, Guangzhou, where they toured high-tech facilities such as the Nansha New Area Planning Exhibition Hall, GAC Tech Center, and Guangdong Medical Valley. They also experienced smart city systems and trial-rode autonomous buses, gaining insights into Nansha's innovation-driven development.
Delegates showed strong interest in collaborating. Mohamed El-Tanani from Ras Al Khaimah Medical & Health Sciences University highlighted ongoing student exchanges with Guangdong. Representatives from Nepal and Malaysia expressed eagerness to adopt smart transportation and medical innovations. Lee Joo Seng, CEO of a Malaysian tech firm, showed interest in Guangzhou's smart city and autonomous vehicle technologies to improve traffic management in Malaysia.
The Nansha visit was part of a five-day tour, with further stops in Guangzhou and Shenzhen aimed at exploring technology, local culture, and cooperative opportunities.
