Ma Wenfeng, director of the Foreign Affairs Office of the People's Government of Guangdong Province, met with Emilio de Miguel Calabia, the newly appointed consul general of Spain in Guangzhou, and his delegation on March 2.
Ma extended warm congratulations to Emilio on his assumption of office. He noted that China and Spain have maintained close high-level exchanges in recent years and aimed to build a comprehensive strategic partnership with stronger strategic resolve and development vitality.
With bilateral ties on a sound footing, Guangdong and Spain have seen fruitful friendly exchanges and practical cooperation across the board. As 2026 marks the start of China’s 15th Five-Year Plan (2026-30), Ma said Guangdong stands ready to join hands with Spanish partners to boost two-way trade, expand mutual investment and advance cultural and tourism exchanges as well as people-to-people bonds.
Calabia expressed gratitude to the office for its sustained support and committed to positioning the consulate as a conduit for enhancing bilateral collaboration across various sectors, including economic development, trade, cultural exchange, tourism and sports. He also assured that the consulate would continue to streamline the visa application process for enterprises from Guangdong looking to invest in Spain.
