Guangdong, Vientiane pledge deeper ties in anniversary year

Guangdong province and Vientiane agreed to deepen cooperation in trade, investment and cultural exchanges during a meeting in Guangzhou on March 10.

Ma Wenfeng, director of the Foreign Affairs Office of the People's Government of Guangdong Province, met with a delegation from the Lao capital. He said China and Laos are friendly socialist neighbors and a community with a shared future of strategic significance.

Ma said that Guangdong and Vientiane have maintained close communication since establishing friendly ties in 2015. As 2026 marks the 65th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Laos and the China-Laos Friendship Year, Guangdong is willing to work with Vientiane and the Lao Consulate General in Guangzhou to implement the consensus reached by the top leaders of the two countries.

He said the two sides are poisted to jointly organize celebration events and expand cooperation in economic and trade investment, local friendship and people-to-people exchanges to achieve greater outcomes in building the China-Laos community with a shared future.

Vongsay Phommisay, head of the delegation and director of the Foreign Affairs Department of Vientiane, thanked Guangdong for its long-standing support and expressed hope for closer exchanges in high-level visits, business, tourism and youth affairs.

Qian Hongjie, deputy director of the office, and Phanthavong Bouthasavong, Consul General of Laos in Guangzhou, also attended the meeting.
