Xiao Yafei, deputy director of the Standing Committee of the Guangdong Provincial People's Congress, attended and delivered a speech at the National Day Reception hosted by the Consulate General of Portugal in Guangzhou on June 11.

Xiao said Guangdong has long served as a vital hub for economic, trade and people-to-people ties between China and Portugal, two countries with profound historical heritage and time-honored bilateral exchanges.

This year marks the start of China's 15th Five-Year Plan (2026-30) and the much-anticipated China Year of APEC. Guangdong is deepening the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area development and fostering a world-class, market-oriented, law-based and internationalized business environment. It will join hands with friends from all sectors in Portugal to tap cooperation potential in trade investment, sci-tech innovation, green energy, culture and education.

The two sides will share development opportunities and jointly draw a bright blueprint for the future.
