China's Diplomacy in the New Era
Guangdong, British Columbia eye deeper multi-sector cooperation

Li Hongzhi, deputy director of the Guangdong Provincial Foreign Affairs Office, met with a delegation led by Mike Farnworth, director of Transportation and Public Transit in Canada’s British Columbia (Fan Hefu in Chinese), in Guangzhou on July 3, with both sides pledging to broaden practical cooperation across multiple sectors.

Li briefed the delegation on the province’s latest economic and social progress and reviewed the long-standing friendly exchanges between Guangdong and British Columbia.

He noted that Chinese and Canadian leaders agreed in January to build a new type of strategic partnership between the two countries, which has injected fresh impetus into bilateral exchanges at all levels

Guangdong stands ready to work with British Columbia to expand trade, boost bilateral investment, and deepen collaboration in low-carbon development, new energy, culture and tourism.

Farnworth expressed gratitude for the warm reception and hailed Guangdong’s achievements in economic development and infrastructure. He vowed to take bilateral cooperation in trade, agriculture, forestry, tourism and clean energy to new heights.
