The 16th Guangdong-Singapore Cooperation Council meeting was held in Singapore on Aug 25. Meng Fanli, governor of South China's Guangdong province and the council's Chinese co-chair, and Ong Ye Kung, Singapore's coordinating minister of the Ministry of Social Policies and the Ministry of Health and the council's Singaporean co-chair, attended and addressed the attendees.

The two sides announced a series of cooperation projects in emerging sectors including the digital economy, artificial intelligence and biomedicine, further expanding practical cooperation between Guangdong and Singapore.

Meng said that Guangdong and Singapore have seen strong results in trade, investment, technology and education cooperation over the years. Looking ahead to China's 15th Five-Year Plan period (2026-30), Guangdong seeks to deepen collaboration with Singapore, leverage the council's guiding role, advance key platforms such as the Sino-Singapore Guangzhou Knowledge City, and expand cooperation in trade, tourism, manufacturing and digital sectors.

Ong said the council has long served as a vital bilateral cooperation platform, and both sides can tap their complementary supply chain strengths to expand high-value-added cooperation.

Meng also met with Chee Hong Tat, Singapore's minister of the Ministry of Trade and Industry, and visited local enterprises and institutions including Trafigura Group and DBS Bank for further cooperation discussions.
