Time of establishment of friendly relations: November 2013
Overview:
Mendoza province is located in western Argentina, covering an area of approximately 149,000 square kilometers with a population of around 1.74 million. The province is predominantly mountainous, with the Andes in the west featuring numerous volcanoes and snow-capped peaks, including Mount Aconcagua, which rises to 6,964 meters and is the second-highest peak in the Western Hemisphere. The climate is arid, with an average annual rainfall of about 200 mm. Only 2 percent of the province's land is arable, featuring primarily irrigated valley agriculture, and Mendoza is also the top wine-producing region in Argentina. Key industries of the province include wine production, canning, chemicals, oil refining and rubber. Mendoza is well-connected, with an international railway linking it to Santiago, Chile. The provincial capital, Mendoza city, is located in the heart of the Cuyo region, renowned for wine production, and is one of Argentina's most historic cities.
Relations with Guangdong:
Since establishing friendly relations, Guangdong and Mendoza have actively engaged in exchanges and cooperation in various fields, including trade, agriculture and mutual visits by delegations.
In 2019, Rodolfo Alejandro Suarez, the then governor of Mendoza, visited Guangdong, where he and the then-governor Ma Xingrui witnessed the signing of a memorandum of understanding to deepen practical cooperation between the Guangdong Foreign Affairs Office and the Mendoza Ministry of Economy. In 2020, Suarez recorded a video message for the opening ceremony of the World 5G Convention held in Guangzhou.
