On Oct 13, the "Guangdong-Denmark Friendship Meet" green cycling event was held on Guangzhou's Changzhou Island. The activity celebrated 75 years of China-Denmark diplomatic ties while promoting low-carbon living.
Danish Ambassador to China Michael Starbæk Christensen noted that Copenhagen, capital of Denmark, is consistently ranked as the world's most bike-friendly city. "About half of its residents use bicycles for their daily commute," he said. "Guangzhou is similarly suitable for cycling."
He emphasized that promoting cycling and healthy lifestyles perfectly celebrates the diplomatic anniversary.
The event also showcased green concepts ahead of November's 15th National Games of China. As a main host city, Guangzhou promotes the games' eco-friendly philosophy through such activities.
Nearly 100 participants enjoyed a relaxed five-kilometer ride. Danish Consul General in Guangzhou Søren Bindesbøll shared his cycling experience and excitement for the upcoming games. "I plan to attend the opening ceremony and badminton events," he said.
This marked the third friendly gathering between Denmark and Guangdong, strengthening ties through shared commitment to sustainable development.
