Overview:

The South Moravian Region is located in the southeastern part of the Czech Republic, bordering Austria and Slovakia. It covers an area of 7,195.55 square kilometers with a population of about 1.14 million. The capital, Brno, is the second-largest city in the Czech Republic. The region boasts a well-developed transportation network, with major European highways and railways connecting Eastern and Western Europe as well as Northern and Southern Europe converging here. It has a strong industrial base, producing natural gas, oil, hard coal, and lignite. The region is also known for its heavy and precision machinery manufacturing, metal processing, and famous textile, footwear, and sewing industries.

In recent years, the number of companies in the fields of computer technology, electronics, telecommunications, software development, and other high-tech sectors has grown significantly. The regional government actively supports technology-based and biotech start-up companies. South Moravia also has an excellent higher education system, with its residents generally having a higher level of education than the national average. The region is rich in tourism resources and has a deep historical and cultural heritage, with many important historical buildings of various styles, including the Villa Tugendhat in Brno and the Lednice-Valtice Cultural Landscape, both of which are UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

Relations with Guangdong:

Since establishing friendly relations, Guangdong and the South Moravian Region have maintained frequent exchanges and deepened cooperation. In April 2018, Ma Xingrui, the then governor of Guangdong province, led a delegation to visit the South Moravian Region. During the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, the two regions actively engaged in anti-pandemic cooperation, donating medical supplies to each other, becoming a model of friendly exchanges between China and the Czech Republic at the local level.
