Chen Guangjun, deputy director-general of the Foreign Affairs Office of the People's Government of Guangdong Province, met with Markus Thür, Switzerland's newly appointed consul general in Guangzhou, on December 5.
Chen warmly welcomed Markus Thür and congratulated him on his new role. He noted that Switzerland is an important cooperation partner for Guangdong, with frequent high-level delegations from the province visiting Switzerland in recent years. Thanks to the support and promotion of the Consulate General of Switzerland, the two regions have achieved fruitful outcomes across various fields, including thriving trade, burgeoning financial collaboration, and active exchanges in science, technology and education.
Chen highlighted Switzerland's global reputation for technological innovation and Guangdong's strength as a hub of technological advancement, particularly in new energy vehicles, green energy and artificial intelligence. He expressed hope for enhanced cooperation in technological innovation, leveraging the opportunities of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area to achieve mutually beneficial development.
Markus Thür shared his impressions of Guangdong. He praised Guangdong's economic vitality and high standards of social governance, noting that Swiss businesses he has engaged with consistently commend the province's favorable business environment. He expressed gratitude to the Guangdong Foreign Affairs Office for its long-standing support and pledged to work tirelessly during his tenure to elevate Switzerland-Guangdong exchanges and cooperation across various fields to new heights.
