The Foreign Affairs Office of the People's Government of Guangdong Province hosted a matchmaking event in Guangzhou on Feb 26 aimed at strengthening the working mechanism for provincial enterprises going global and enhancing cooperation with Latin American consulates.
The event was attended by around 50 representatives from eight Latin American consulates, provincial enterprises, business associations, and municipal foreign affairs offices.
Cang Feng, deputy director-general of Guangdong Foreign Affairs Office, highlighted that Guangdong's trade with Latin American countries exceeded 548.5 billion yuan ($75.58 billion) last year, accounting for approximately one-sixth of China's total trade with the region.
He noted that the Foreign Affairs Office had introduced 10 policy measures in 2023 to support enterprises' international expansion, leading to positive results. The office will continue to support practical cooperation between Guangdong enterprises and foreign institutions.
Envoys from Mexico, Brazil, Argentina, and Chile introduced their countries' investment environments, expressing optimism about China-Latin America cooperation under the Belt and Road Initiative. They emphasized how Latin American markets are well suited to Guangdong's strengths and welcomed Guangdong enterprises to invest, pledging support in policy consultation, risk management, and visa processing.
Representatives of enterprises such as China Southern Power Grid, OPPO, China-LAC Technology Transfer Center and Guangdong Weiyi Industrial Technology said that the event provided valuable first-hand information on Latin American investment policies, aiding their market entry strategies. They looked forward to more such activities from the Foreign Affairs Office.
The event is part of a broader effort by the Foreign Affairs Office to support over 120 enterprises and associations through regular training and matchmaking activities, with over 300 participants to date. [Photo/Guangdong Foreign Affairs Office]
