China's Diplomacy in the New Era
Nauru media outlets visit Guangdong

Cang Feng, deputy director-general of the Foreign Affairs Office of the People's Government of Guangdong Province, met with a group of journalists from Nauru on December 2.

The delegation, staying in Guangdong between November 29 and December 3, was the first group of Nauru journalists to visit China since the resumption of diplomatic relations in January this year.

Cang gave a rundown of the province's efforts in advancing the development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, expanding high-level opening-up and pushing forward high-quality development. He highlighted the close ties between Guangdong and Nauru, including reciprocal visits by leaders such as president Lionel Rouwen Aingimea in March and speaker of the Parliament of Nauru Marcus Stephen in December, as well as vice-chairman of the Guangdong Provincial Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference Yuan Baocheng's visit to Nauru in May.

Cang mentioned frequent exchanges in marine fisheries, agriculture, and cultural sectors, such as the medical mission by Zhongshan Ophthalmic Center's team to Nauru in November this year. He encouraged the delegation to enjoy Guangdong's hospitality and witness its achievements in reform and opening-up, sharing Guangdong's story of Chinese modernization with the Pacific Islands and fostering stronger people-to-people connections.

Kaelyn Dekarube, secretary for the delegation, thanked Guangdong for its thoughtful arrangements and noted that the visit provided a firsthand view of Guangdong's impressive achievements in reform, opening-up and modernization, leaving a profound impression on the delegation.
