As the Guest of Honor at the 2025 Southern China Book Fair, Vietnam showcased its rich culture from Aug 15 to 19 in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA). Its participation is especially significant as it coincides with the 75th anniversary of China-Vietnam diplomatic relations and the China-Vietnam Year of People-to-People Exchanges.
Vietnamese Consul General in Guangzhou Nguyen Viet Dung emphasized the event's role beyond literature, calling it a "great opportunity" to promote Vietnam. The Vietnamese pavilion, themed "Vietnam – Endless Charm", offers an immersive journey through captivating videos, traditional Ao Dai costumes, and popular foods like pho and banh mi.
He underscored Guangdong's pivotal role as a bridge for cultural exchanges, noting its geographical proximity and deep historical ties with Vietnam. These strong connections are evident in mutual cultural appreciation: Vietnamese audiences enjoy Chinese media, while traditional Vietnamese arts like Cheo opera are performed in Guangdong. Culinary exchange is also vibrant, with Guangdong food being widely available in Vietnam and vice versa.
He affirmed that the book fair serves as a vital "bridge of bilateral knowledge", facilitating the translation of literary works and publisher collaborations. He stressed that this platform is a valuable chance for both nations to explore shared values, foster innovation, and ultimately build a stronger strategic community for the future.
