This makes the Maldives the second country — following Madagascar — to establish a dedicated trade and economic office at the platform, further strengthening Nansha's role as a strategic hub "open to the world".

The newly opened center will leverage Nansha's geographic advantages, supportive policies, and industrial strengths to promote practical cooperation between China and the Maldives in sectors such as seafood trade, eco-tourism, green energy, smart ports, and the blue economy. It will also support Maldivian businesses in accessing the vast Chinese market and facilitate Greater Bay Area enterprises' participation in the Maldives' blue economy and infrastructure development.

This move marks another milestone in Nansha's accelerated international cooperation platform building. Since its launch in October 2025, the China-Africa center has expanded its network to cover 72 countries and regions, connecting with 194 overseas institutions. Leveraging Nansha's robust port logistics and efficient transport links across the Greater Bay Area, the district is consolidating its role as a key hub connecting China with emerging global markets.

Nansha continues to deepen cooperation with Belt and Road partner countries and is committed to developing itself into an internationally influential cooperation hub anchored in the Bay Area, working closely with Hong Kong and Macao, and open to the world.
