Sun Zhiyang, mayor of Guangzhou, Guangdong province, met with a delegation from Belo Horizonte, Brazil, led by Mayor Álvaro Damião, on the morning of Oct 14, during which they signed a memorandum of understanding to enhance exchange and cooperation between the two cities.
"Belo Horizonte is a key economic hub in Brazil, boasting abundant resources in science and technology innovation and a vibrant business community," Sun said.. "Its development concepts resonate with Guangzhou's, and our industries are highly complementary, which presents vast potential for our cooperation."
Damião said that the signing of the memorandum is a significant milestone. He expressed hope that both cities will explore more collaborative opportunities in trade, investment, automotive manufacturing, culture, and education, aiming for win-win development and improving the welfare of their peoples.
Located in southeastern Brazil, Belo Horizonte is the nation's fourth-largest city and the capital of the state of Minas Gerais, Brazil's third-largest state, functioning as its political, economic, and cultural heart. This partnership establishes Belo Horizonte as Guangzhou's fourth international friendship city in Brazil, after Recife, Salvador, and Rio de Janeiro.
