Standing atop the Canton Tower, members of the One Voice Children's Choir from the United States joined local Chinese students in a heartfelt rendition of the Cantonese classic Friends, culminating their two-week cultural journey across China on Jan 10.

The 48-member choir, consisting of students aged 5 to 18, toured five cities: Beijing, Shanghai, Hangzhou, Shenzhen, and Guangzhou. For many, like member Abbylynn, it was their first visit. "I love Guangzhou, and I just love the people here," she shared.

The tour focused on forging connections. Interactions with local Chinese youth were a highlight. "Just saying hi makes their day and makes our day," observed member Zack, reflecting on the universal power of music to bridge cultural and other social gaps. The experience showcased both cultural distinctions and shared humanity, with members noting the vibrant city life and advanced technology on offer.

Central to their final performance was the theme of friendship. "Friendships can span over oceans," said member Cody, emphasizing the tour's role in fostering people-to-people bonds between the two nations.

Originally formed for the 2002 Salt Lake City Olympics, the choir has grown into a global nonprofit. Its mission is to empower youth voices and promote kindness. As their China tour concluded, it underscored how artistic collaboration and shared melodies can serve as a powerful force for mutual understanding among the younger generation.
