Guangdong sends largest-ever delegation to 15th National Games

Guangdong province sent its largest-ever delegation of 1,072 athletes to the 15th National Games of China, making it the biggest team among all 37 participating groups.

The Guangdong delegation, representing all 21 cities in the province, will compete in 348 events across 33 sports. The team demonstrates remarkable youth vitality with an average age of 22.1 years, including veteran equestrian Li Zhenqiang, aged 57, and 13-year-old skateboarders. Remarkably, 74.2 percent of these athletes were born after 2000, and 55.8 percent are competing in their first National Games.

Ten Olympic champions, including diving sensations Quan Hongchan and Xie Siyi, will lead the experienced squad.

Olympic athletes such as Su Bingtian from track and field, Wang Xinyu from tennis, Liang Weikeng from badminton, Wang Xue'er from swimming, and Feng Ziqi from wrestling are also exciting to watch.

The team demonstrated strong performance early on, winning six gold, three silver, and four bronze medals in completed events. Combined with results from the 14th National Winter Games, Guangdong has now amassed a total of 51 gold, 33 silver, and 23 bronze medals.

In the main games period, Guangdong athletes will aim for medals in core sports including athletics, diving, swimming, and badminton. The province will also send 808 participants to mass sports events, emphasizing Guangdong's commitment to promoting nationwide fitness.

The 15th National Games, jointly hosted by Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao, will run from Nov 9 to 21 with the opening ceremony in Guangzhou.
