An event aimed at deepening economic and cultural ties between China's Guangdong province and Latin America concluded in Jiangmen on Dec 18. Titled "Guangdong-Latin America Rendezvous: A 2025 Coffee Journey in Jiangmen", the forum centered on the coffee industry and attracted government officials, diplomats, business leaders, and media representatives from 11 Latin American and Caribbean nations.
The event, which featured a keynote exchange, was co-hosted by the Foreign Affairs Office of the People's Government of Guangdong Province, the Guangdong Council for the Promotion of International Trade, and the Jiangmen municipal government. Officials such as Jiangmen Mayor Wu Xiaohui highlighted the gathering as an innovative effort to use coffee as a medium for cultural exchange and industrial partnerships. They expressed hope that Latin America's premium coffee will be able to find a larger market in China and that Guangdong's high-quality products will be able to establish a foothold in Latin America.
Speaking for the international delegation, Ruben Campos, a parliamentarian from the Central American Parliament, emphasized coffee's role as a key agricultural product for the region. He said the event was significant not only for trade but also for fostering knowledge-sharing and sustainable development within the global coffee value chain, serving as a crucial bridge for resource connection between the regions.
The program included presentations on Jiangmen's coffee industry ecosystem and visits to local coffee equipment and roasting enterprises. Participants widely praised the event, with several expressing strong interest in exploring concrete collaboration opportunities and facilitating coffee culture and business exchanges between Jiangmen and their home countries.
