On Jan 19, the Guangdong Foreign Affairs Office hosted its annual diplomatic gathering, "GDFAO Night", at the Guangzhou Museum of Art. The event was attended by consular officials from 65 countries, reflecting the ongoing focus on people-to-people and cultural exchange in international relations.

The event was held with the support of the Guangdong Museum of Art, featuring performances including a lion-and-dragon-themed street dance by Guangzhou Sport University and a vibrant dance by GDFAO.

In his opening remarks, Ma Wenfeng, director general of GDFAO, welcomed the guests and extended Spring Festival greetings. He reflected on Guangdong's achievements in 2025, particularly its co-hosting of the 15th National Games. Looking ahead, he noted that 2026 marks the start of China's 15th Five-Year Plan (2026-30) and the APEC "China Year".

Ma also expressed delight in welcoming the newly established Consulates General of Kenya, Kazakhstan, and Guinea, adding, "May the Consular Corps in Guangzhou continue to grow and thrive as a circle of friends." He pledged his office's ongoing support for consular work in the province.

Speaking on behalf of the consular corps, Ruben Espinoza Raymondi, Acting Dean and Consul General of Peru in Guangzhou, thanked GDFAO for the invitation. He underscored the significance of cultural diplomacy, noting that "diplomatic courtesies and mutual understanding undoubtedly find a magnificent means in cultural exchange." His remarks reinforced the view that cultural engagement serves as a bridge for sustained international cooperation.
