In Futian, an idea can become a prototype in just seven days. That's the kind of speed that defines Shenzhen – and it's exactly what brought Indian maker Manan here.
Manan, an Indian engineer who moved from academic research to hardware entrepreneurship, was looking for a place where he could actually build things. He found it at TroubleMaker, a maker space inside BLACKARK in Futian. "Honestly, I just wanted a place where I could make things," he says.
At TroubleMaker, he connected with manager Hank and a community of global creators. "We all speak the same language – talking about technologies, problems and solutions," Manan says. The space gave him a bridge to understand the local market.
But what truly impressed him was Futian's manufacturing ecosystem. "If I need anything customized – through local suppliers or Taobao – it usually arrives at my doorstep within three days," he says. This "plug‑and‑play" supply chain lets him iterate fast, especially in hardware. "Here, you can build whatever you want, and you can do it quickly. In about a week, you're done."
Manan currently works as a freelancer without a registered company. But if his project goes well, he says he will seriously consider putting down roots in Futian.
