Guangdong provincial officials welcomed James Buyekane, Kenya's first Consul General in Guangzhou, on Feb 3, discussing ways to expand bilateral cooperation.
Ma Wenfeng, director of the Foreign Affairs Office of the People's Government of Guangdong province, extended congratulations on the opening of the Consulate and Buyekane's new appointment. He highlighted the enduring friendship between China and Kenya, established 63 years ago, built on mutual respect and support, and embodying the spirit of China-Africa cooperation.
Against this backdrop, Ma said the Guangdong-Kenya collaboration has yielded fruitful outcomes across trade, industrial capacity, and cultural exchanges. He expressed hope for joint efforts to broaden cooperation, strengthen people-to-people connections, and inject sustained momentum in the bilateral partnership.
Buyekane thanked the provincial office for its support. He affirmed that China was among the first countries to establish diplomatic relations with Kenya, and their friendship remains strong. He pledged to deepen economic and trade cooperation between Kenya and Guangdong during his tenure, actively promoting concrete outcomes in trade and investment.
He Rusheng, deputy director of the Foreign Affairs Office, also attended the meeting.
